Whaddup my N*&%A

Whaddup my n&%#a is a far too common phase heard amongst my negro brethren. I must say I've never been a fan of the word usage and now that we have a "brotha" as a president I hate it even more. I can't understand why we (black people) continue to disrespect ourselves like that. I hate when people call him Mr. Obama when he clearly should be addressed as President Obama! If some white person called him nigga yall would have a damn fit! It's derogatory in every way. It's not cool, hip, dope, or the way we talk! It's none of that. It's derogatory! I may call you my muh'f&*^a but never ever "my ni**a". You people (yes you black people, lol) use it too freely in circles outside of your "homie" circles. I implore that we (yes us black people) do better my people. I mean come on, I'm sure we can find an equally cool word to use to signify that individual as brethren! I don't want to be the only one with an opinion. What I want to do is hear from you all out there. Please talk to me. I need an outside opinion.

  1. Ok T. I love this. Did you read my mind?!

Dear Lord. I JUST, I mean yesterday and the day before got into ongoing drag on email discussion with the dance teacher at my gym.
Shes not American and has no concept of what that word means to many people.
Although I loved her class, I had to walk out. I cannot be the only chocolate spot in that room surrounded by old Caucasian and Middle Eastern Women bumping and grinding to "NI**a NI**a N**ga ", It was not Kosher.
I emailed her and our lengthy conversation ensued. She basically told me to ignore the lyrics and listen to the beat. Her black friends dont mind and Btw, she supports Pres. Obama.
I told her some disturbing and disgusting stories involving the N word because that is what that word conjures up.
"Sorry I could never just ignore that disgusting word, Id rather my relatives be called anything other than that. Having a Uncle that was Slashed to death for being a Black "N***" in the south, or parents that were spit on and abused for intermixing, I was raised along with many others to never say such a word. I imagine if I was Jewish I would never dance to a song praising Hitler or making light of his death camps . It is a relic of a era that allowed Brown people to be hung in trees and dragged from Car bumpers without consequence"
She still does not understand and I dont blame her. She Looks at The African American people that are her friends and coworkers, she listens to the Music and she has been taught that its acceptable to use such a word. It angers me that we have internalized something that people died fighting against and gave their lives so their children would not be subjected to. I dont understand it at all. If you dont want people to disrespect you, stop disrespecting yourselves.
I dont know maybe because my dad was older, his stories of being beaten up and beaten down were real to me, maybe I know that it hurt to be called that Dirty Epithet, but Ive never used that and I look at those who do and feel sad .
    Heres a video for ya!

  2. That's a cold point, but do you think when we now say "Nigga" we have taken back the meaning of the word from the people that used it to oppress, to now use it as an expression of affection? Do you fel that we have taken back some of the power of the word?

  3. thanks L. I appreciate your long thought out expression. I know some times it's a little difficult to just open up. Now to my girl Treenie, I totally think we are taking 500 steps back. I meant lunar planetary moon steps backwards. I was at the park with my son, and I'm hearing junior high kids talk about, "naw n----a we was at yo house" in front of other kids and non-black kids. To pose the question "are we taking back the power from the white man?" I will answer it quite simply, NOPE! And the reason I say that is this, if Johnny Hatanigga said to you, "a ni--a, where can I get something to eat around here?" you wouldn't be like, "yo, go down 3 blocks and on ya left you'll see a bomb ass mom and pops spot called Getcha Grub On". Hell naw! I know you'd be like mutha f***a get out the car! So no we haven't taken anything back. I'm sorry I'm from Portland, Oregon and was called a ni**a more than a damn lot in my life. And I left at the age of 10. I've been chased out of neighborhoods when I was working a paper subscription route. When I think of a ni**a I think of an ignorant piece of trash, that I wouldn't want my roaches to eat after! Girls/women (especially black girls/women) call each other bitch all the time. Is the sting gone if someone rolled up on you and was like "a bitch, where is Von's, I need some toothpaste"! Again, I'm sure you'd be ready to ride on the individual for coming at you super duper foul! The N word has no place out in public in ear shot of anyone. I actually find it fun to think of other retarded little words to use, like ninja, hobbit, or even nicka. This isn't even a black or white thing. It's a pandemic that really needs to stop. I think there is a place for everything, so I'm not trying to condemn for the word usage, but more so for the word usage timing. Ya white boss bet not ever come out the office and be like "yo can you believe this ni**a just called in late again?"! WOW! I'd have a problem if a black guy said it. Sorry, it steal has ugly power to me. I know I rambled on, but this topic gets me. tell me how you feel. yaboyterey is soooooooooooooooooooooooo 5000
